Dialogue Between a Philosopher, a Jew, and a Christian

By Peter Abelard

For something written so long ago on such a serious topic, this short book provides a surprising level of entertaining and easy-to-understand dialog. It begins with the narrator describing how the philosopher, Jew, and Christian come asking him to be the referee and judge in the debate between their different points of view. Walking a dangerous and narrow path for the times, Abelard blends his deep Christian theological understanding with the competing views of reason and science. He concludes that the Ultimate Good is God, makes a strong but subtle case for Basic Goodness, builds a stable foundation for non-theistic, non-materialistic religion.
