By John Lennon
Highly influential and turning-point Beatles album, #6 but 1st with only original songs; Rubber Soul sparked a change in the music industry away from popular singles surrounded by mediocre filler tracks to full albums of quality singles. Brian Williams said it was ”the first album I listened to where every song was a gas" and it inspired the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, the Who, the Jefferson Airplane, and modern music in general. Critics mark the track, Norwegian Wood as a root of the “World Music” movement. Recently ranked fifth—50 years after its release—on Rolling Stones’s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list, it became a major influence on the golden age of popular music. Music journalist Rob Sheffield said about it, “we’re all living in the future this album invented. Now as then, every pop artist wants to make a Rubber Soul of their own.”
