The subtle and mysterious quality of the Tao Te Ching tempts over-simplification and explanation. In this regard, it seems good to remember Lao Tzu’s words, “Those who know don’t speak; those who speak don’t know.” This ancient wisdom goes directly to our hearts in all their unique oneness defying definitive explanation. For this reason attempts to clarify often only confuse and lead to a kind of arrogance that completely opposes Lao Tzu's meaning. Derek Lin says about his work, “No matter how rigorous the standard, this translation you hold in your hands will meet or surpass it… This is why the volume you now hold in your hands is so revolutionary.”
